Not Just a Boutique – A Wellground

Not Just a Boutique – A Wellground

by Joy Robinson

As a professional mom, shopper and writer of 30 years (not in that order and gosh that sounds old) I am super excited to write about the amazing new boutique slash wellness center called The Wellground @ 938 Port Washington Boulevard. It’s diagonally across from Campus Drive. Surely many of you waterside townies who frequent the Boulevard have spotted it by now. If not, next time you’re in the car, feast your eyes above the Subway sandwich shop. Look up on the second level. WELLGROUND  appears in big bright orange letters. It’s the best-kept secret on the Gold Coast. Well maybe not anymore.

I’ve only shopped there once and I’m already addicted to the fashion vibe this spot evokes. This unexpected, second story gem is not to be missed with its vast array of chic, on-trend clothing, aromatic candles, scarves, boots, belts, books, barre classes, and what… facials? Fact. Facials!

The Wellground is the brainchild of two fashion-forward Port Washington women, both former jewelry designers living in NYC. They’ve resided here for almost 20 years collectively and just six months ago, the two co-founders Manda Kovar and Lanie Marcus opened their doors and hearts to this super stylish retail retreat. Both have well-defined roles that fit some of their passions in life. Lanie is the Retail Curator and Buyer, while Manda is the Wellness & Beauty Curator.

I couldn’t help but ask Lanie and Manda why the random location. Real estate is all about location, location, location isn’t it? But it seems with the retail apocalypse we’re living in now a storefront on Main Street may not have been the answer.  They wanted a space where they could grow in, that felt like an escape from the familiar.  Where their kids (Manda has 3, Lanie has 5) could walk across the street after school, check in, drop their backpacks and journey through Main Street.

The Wellground racks and shelves are stacked with on-trend brands like Sea, NSF, Agolde, Citizens of Humanity, Ba&sh, Bell, Live the Process, Amo, Sunday Saint Tropez  and more. I must admit, the other day I left there with three large bags of fabulous finds. I can’t wait to rock my new blue topaz and amethyst colored silk camis, cozy knit cable cardigans, a white puffy-shoulder jean jacket for spring, even a bedazzled rainbow rhinestone beach hat for summer. Those gals are always thinking ahead! Oh and I can’t forget about my new pair of super soft Isabel Marant look-alike galaxy boots in black–  but for half the cash– by Penelope Chilvers.

Down the hall from the clothing boutique is another room filled with items for the home. A collection of candles that smell unbelievable. My favorite is the sea salted grapefruit candle. It’s in this space where barre classes are held, as well as detoxifying, refreshing facials by a city aesthetician. Add your name to their email list and you’ll be updated weekly about happenings here! You’ll be able to book a facial, or join a barre class, or just come and try on stuff from the sale happening now.

Stay well and grounded,

Joy
