Wellground Facial is a Skin Blessing

Wellground Facial is a Skin Blessing

by Joy Robinson

I admit it. I’m guilty of neglecting my aging skin these days, especially during the brutally cold and dry winter months that suck all the moisture out of my face leaving it feeling cracked and chapped. My poor skin has been craving some major attention - so last Friday I booked a facial treatment with Loren at the Wellground @ 938 Port Washington Boulevard.

Rushing to the appointment, I was lucky enough to grab the closest metered spot directly across the street. Jackpot, I thought! I hopped out of my car, popped in a couple quarters, and climbed up the stairs to the new boutique/wellness center. The Wellground has become very familiar to me the past several weeks. I’m really excited about it. I’ve already done a workout class with Tracy, had an amazing facial with Loren and let’s not forget the trunk show last month with “Dress with Jess” that I literally walked into in need of a little pick-me-up for my wardrobe. I found the most delicious sweaters and sexy, silky tops on sale from the Wellground racks, just beaming with great colors and textures. Definitely worth a drop in when you find the time.

Ok getting back to this facial. First off, Loren the aesthetician clearly had beautiful skin. I was curious to see what treatment she’d recommend for me. Full disclosure…for the past 6 months, I’ve been trying to get rid of stubborn melasma or brown patches on my face. I’ve never had this before, but learned from my dermatologist that this hyperpigmentation can appear due to hormonal changes or sun exposure. Apparently, it’s more common for women than it is for men. Lucky us.

Loren had me fill out a simple, short questionnaire that would alert her to any allergies. It all felt very professional, as if I were in a dermatologist’s office. Loren, by the way, worked for 5 years for Dr. Karen Wessen in Great Neck and worked for another doctor prior. She definitely knows her stuff and told me she loves the flexibility she has now at Wellground.

She assessed my skin straight away and recommended two things I had never heard of: dermoplaning and lymphatic drainage which later I learned felt like an amazing massage with some suction to boot. I have to say the dermoplaning got rid of the awful melasma above my lip which I’ve been battling with the past few months. I was hesitant at first when she told me the first procedure was just her and a blade working on my face. Yikes. But, no worries it actually tickled and massaged my face. Neither procedure hurt me one bit and required absolutely no lasers or chemicals. She said both are very popular services and promise to rejuvenate my complexion with fresher, younger, more radiant skin.

Well now, three days later as I write this and I can say that my skin never looked better. Each day has gotten better and better.  Loren did extractions on some clogged pores of mine - which I needed badly. She was a gem and my face felt refreshed and rejuvenated as promised! I can’t wait to go back in 4 weeks.
